The ancestors of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz spoke up to 11 different base languages. These languages were so different that it was sometimes hard to understand one another. Depending on the region, cultural practices were different. In each region, there was a headman, which was in charge of planning, organizing, and working as a mediator. Their houses were primarily cedar or sugar pine plank which sometimes reached over 100 feet long.
